New Alstom Research Turbine to be Dedicated at NREL

Golden, Colo., Apr. 22, 2011 – The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Alstom will formally dedicate a new 3 megawatt Alstom ECO 100 wind turbine at the National Wind Technology Center on Tuesday, April 26. The turbine is the centerpiece of what will be a significant government-industry wind energy research partnership between Alstom and NREL.

Wind power has been the fastest-growing source of new electric power generation for several years. In 2009, generation from wind power increased 33.5 percent over 2008, bringing the share of total generation in the U.S. to 1.9 percent, according to the Energy Information Administration.

Representatives from NREL and Alstom will be available to answer questions about the wind turbine and the partnership after a ceremonyto commemorate the dedication.
