HARLINGEN, TX – Nov. 15, 2010 – Cargill is partnering with the Texas Beef Council (TBC) and Harlingen Jaycees for the first ever "Menudo" booth during the Harlingen Jaycees Christmas Parade on Friday, Dec. 3. The booth will be located on A Street and Jackson Street, and 1,000 bowls of hot menudo and all its garnishes will be served from 5 p.m. – 10 p.m. The menudo is free to the public while it lasts! Voluntary donations will be accepted and all proceeds will benefit the Harlingen Jaycees.
Professional Chef Harry Salazar will also be on hand to give quick, helpful holiday cooking tips. Chef Harry has more than 15 years of experience in the culinary arts. He was the host of Sazonando con Harry, a national Hispanic-focused cooking show and had a weekly column on Diario La Estrella in Dallas, Tex., where he featured his own healthy Mexican recipes.
Menudo is a family tradition during the holidays and compliments this year's parade theme: An Old Fashioned Christmas.
Meredith McGowan, brand manager for Rumba meats, stated, "We are very excited to be a part of the Harlingen community. Providing the community with a traditional warm meal during a long-standing Harlingen tradition while assisting a local non-profit organization are great ways to support the season of giving this holiday."
Cargill is donating the ingredients for the menudo including 500 pounds of Rumba(r) time saving tripe, a new tripe product that cooks in less than 1.5 hours. Texas Beef Council is providing their 20ft x 10ft holiday-themed mobile kitchen unit to help serve the delicious soup.
