ALA Executive Director Keith Michael Fiels highlights importance of libraries, warns against cutbacks in CBN interview
CHICAGO – In a recent interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network, American Library Association (ALA) Executive Director Keith Michael Fiels explained the current state of America’s libraries and the financial difficulties they face. The segment, which aired on Nov. 11, can be viewed on the Public Information Office blog, Visibility @ your library.
The segment entitled, “Shhh! Despite Boom, Libraries Facing Cutbacks,” emphasizes that libraries may be quiet but are the busiest places in town, showing a steady increase in usage during the past decade.
Fiels also described how cuts in library budgets have a direct impact on citizens who are trying to conduct job searches, as well as on communities where libraries provide the only free access to the Internet.
