Old Dating Magic Restored By Give Me A Shot
New London dating service, Give Me a Shot, providesa welcome alternative to 'catalogue shopping' for dates, instead, offering friendly bar nights where eyes meet across a crowded room.
PRESS DISPENSARY - Tuesday, Jul 27, 2010 - Give Me a Shot ( http://www.givemeashot.co.uk ), an unusual dating service for 30-plus singles located in and around London, is providing a welcome alternative to today's all-too-common 'catalogue shopping' approach to finding a partner. Instead, the new venture is offering bar nights that encourage the near-forgotten romance of eyes meeting across a crowded room, rather than profiles dubiously matching across a cluttered website. The first bar evening will take place at Bar 38, Canary Wharf, London, on Wednesday July 28, 2010.
Give Me a Shot is the brainchild of Tracey Hatch and Christine Ford, who both became single a couple of years ago when long-term relationships ended. They ventured back on to the dating scene, experienced as many horror stories as successes, and realised that dating was becoming as dull and boring as doing the weekly grocery shop. The time was right to get back to basics and help singles reclaim their humanity.
Tracey and Christine spent months visiting and assessing hundreds of bars. Says Tracey: "Thanks to our efforts, we've compiled a comprehensive directory of venues that are absolute gems where singles are concerned. All our selected venues offer the personal approach - just like we do."
Give Me a Shot organises twice-weekly bar meet ups so singles can mingle and get to know each other in a relaxed environment and perhaps feel that all-important chemistry. Periodically, private parties will be held for members.
Says Tracey: "We truly value our members and Christine and I will practically become their social secretaries. If we learn about any events that will interest our members, additional to our normal evenings, we'll tell them about it. For example, a party promoter has asked us to compile a few tables for an August 'Gypsy King' event in Essex. So we'll contact all members based in Essex and invite them along. The idea is to get people out and about rather than having them glued to their computers 'shopping' for a date or stuck for hours speed dating in a dingy club."
Give Me a Shot is the antithesis of high-pressure speed dating or lock-and-key parties. It offers the ability to meet new people naturally, while having a great evening with friends. Says Tracey: "As far as I see it, searching for a date or partner had become all too similar to visiting Tesco. Write your list... decide whether you want to shop for your 'favourites' or head to the luxury and exotic section this time round... see a new product you want... check out and make a payment. When you get the groceries home, however, you realise that you preferred the regular guy with the GSOH to the conceited Italian with the Porsche."
She adds: "My idea is to return to the old way of shopping with regular trips into the community, friendly faces and banter and fun. If you see something you fancy on the shelf, you can spend longer looking at the packaging and learn what's inside before you take it home."
With the 'good old-fashioned way' in mind, Tracey and Christine take a hands-on approach to their work and personally encourage members to attend the bar evenings, issuing friendly reminders online and giving singles no excuse to stay at home. Furthermore, the duo is on hand on the night itself to get the soiree going. If anybody is sitting alone, they will be encouraged to mix.
Christine Ford says: "Many single people we've grown to know during the past few years have simply wanted to meet someone over a civilised drink, where they can easily establish whether that vital spark exists: this is impossible to do online! So we're creating a user base of single people, telling them the best bars to visit and inviting them to attend the same venues at the same time. Unlike dating sites, Give Me a Shot doesn't include user profiles, over-flattering photographs and mindless details about a person's taste in hair colour and movie genres. It's all about getting out and meeting new faces, while also seeing some familiar friends from previous Give Me a Shot events."
After the membership fee of just GBP 22.50 for three months is paid, Give Me a Shot divulges the best bars in and around London where single members congregate. Every week, two bars are featured on nominated nights. And members can even bring non single friends along for a drink and chat, so there's no pressure to be 'segregated singles'. All selected bars make singles feel welcome and comfortable. The employees are friendly, the decor is stylish - sometimes quirky -and each venue has its own personality so guests are quickly put at ease.
Christine reflects: "If I had a pound for every time someone asked 'if only we knew where to find the best bars for singles', I'd be a millionaire by now."
Notes for editors
Give Me a Shot was founded in 2010 by Tracey Hatch and Christine Ford. Tracey, aged 44, became single after a 24 year relationship ended and she moved into her own flat where she met neighbour Christine, who was in exactly the same position. Together, the ladies hit the singles market and tried "everything", leading to some amusing anecdotes and an equal peppering of horror stories.
The idea of Give Me a Shot is to encourage single people to meet face to face in bars that make them feel at home. The company is run from home by both women.
