Random House reported $2.3 billion in revenue for 2009 with an operating profit of $185 million, a profit equal to its 2008 numbers. Dan Brow's The Lost Symbol and Stieg Larsson's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo drove sales for the publisher. Bertelsmann, owner of Random House, posted a net loss of $111 million last year.

Lionsgate Rejects Takeover Bid by Billionaire Carl Icahn
Film studio Lionsgate has rejected a hostile bid from billionaire investor Carl Ichan. Ichan owns about 19% of Lionsgate and has stepped up his attempt to gain control of the film and TV company.
