July 23, 2009 (FinancialWire) — Marketing services firm Valassis (NYSE: VCI) said it was awarded $300 million for compensatory damages in its lawsuit against News Corp.’s (NASDAQ: NWSA) News America Marketing subsidiary.

In the trial, which was held in Michigan, Valassis claimed unfair competition and “tortious interference” by News America Marketing. The jury’s verdict found News America liable for both counts.

News America Marketing said it will appeal the decision.
