Seven Victims Sue Nu-Way Truck Driver Training School for Fraud
Bill Godfrey, a legal researcher at the Ambrose Law Group, is spearheading the initiative to fight back against Nu-Way. He tells the story of Greg Adkins, one of the plaintiffs in the case, to highlight exactly what the company is doing wrong. Unemployed, Greg found Nu-Way through the brochures that they display at Michigan Works offices. As part of the "No Worker Left Behind" program, he learned that he would be able to attend Nu-Way's truck driver training program free of charge. He contacted Nu-Way, and made an appointment to visit them to learn more.
When he arrived, he was told that waiting for Michigan to pay for the program would delay the start of his training by at least three weeks, and that truck driving companies were hungry for new employees. If, instead of waiting for Michigan Works to pay, he agreed to finance the course himself, he could start the next day and be back to work sooner. The good news, they told him, was that he'd never have to pay a dime because the truck driving company that he went to work for after graduation would pay it for.
He agreed to join the class, told that he would make in excess of $40,000 in his first year. Nu-Way waited until Greg had been in the class for three days before they had him sign the contract, putting him on the hook for $6,000 to the school. He didn't worry about it, though, because they told him again that he would never have to pay it. When he did sign, they didn't even give him a copy of the contract.
Greg did graduate from the program, but the reality of its value was sorely different from their promises. His first job, set up by Nu-Way, was for $8 an hour, a far cry from the promised $40,000 per year. He was fired not long after for an utter lack of proper training. Now, Nu-Way is threatening to sue him for over $10,000. Greg isn't alone. Six other plaintiffs tell the same story of lies and fraud, which leads to the Complaint filed against Nu-Way.
