Computer Sciences Wins $44 Million EPA Subcontract

February 23, 2009 (FinancialWire) -- Computer Sciences Corp. (NYSE: CSC) said that Vision Technologies Inc., of Glen Burnie, Md., has awarded CSC a subcontract to provide information technology infrastructure services for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Research and Development. CSC estimates the value of its subcontract to be $44 million.

The subcontract was awarded to CSC under a task order issued to Vision Technologies through the General Services Administration's Veterans Technology Services contract. This contract was awarded to CSC during the company's third quarter fiscal year 2009.

Vision Technologies' EPA task order has a one-year base period and seven one-year options, bringing the estimated total eight-year contract value to $102 million.

Under the terms of the deal, CSC will support and manage servers and data storage, voice and data networks, and IT security, as well as provide end-user support for specialized scientific applications and hardware to thirteen ORD labs, research centers and offices nationwide.

The Office of Research and Development is the scientific research arm of the EPA. It helps provide the solid underpinning of science and technology for the agency, and it conducts research on ways to prevent pollution, protect human health and reduce environmental risk.

The Veterans Technology Services contract is a $5 billion small business set-aside contract for service-disabled veteran-owned small technology firms. Vision Technologies is a CSC protege firm under the federally recognized Mentor-Protege program established in 1990 by the Department of Defense.

The program provides incentives for major prime contractors (mentors) to help small, disadvantaged businesses (proteges) compete more successfully for contract awards.

Falls Church, Virginia-based Computer Sciences offers systems design and integration, information technology and business process outsourcing, applications software development, web and application hosting, mission support and management consulting. The company has around 92,000 employees and reported revenue of $17.1 billion for the 12 months ended January 2.
