Turkey maintains support for Luanda-based pediatric hospital

Luanda, ANGOLA, December 28 - Turkey maintains equipment and medical support for David Bernardino Pediatric Hospital in Luanda through the Turkish Agency for Co-operation and Coordination (TIKA). ,

 

The support allowed the Pediatric Hospital to resume, in March, the diagnosis to children with heart problems, according to Turkey ambassador to Angola, Ahaimet Ihsan Kizitan.

The diplomat, who is at the end of his term, confirmed this to the press at the end of an audience the president João Lourenço granted to him on Friday in Luanda.

He said that his country’s assistance stands at an average of 400 children a day.

Ahaimet Kizitan stressed the good relations of cooperation between the two countries.

"Our countries enjoy excellent relations of cooperation in all areas," said the diplomat, who took the opportunity to bid farewell to the Angolan Head of State.

Bilateral cooperation

Angola and Turkey established diplomatic relations in 1980, but the relations would not start until 2008. Cooperation between the two States is governed by a general trade agreement.

In the framework of this partnership, agreements have been signed in the fields of air and military transport.

The strengthening of relations in areas such as agriculture, tourism, higher education and the textile industry have been at the center of talks between Angolan and Turkish interlocutors.

2016 data indicate that the trade balance between Turkey and Angola stands at 134 million dollars (117.5 million Euros).

In 2014, the two countries negotiated a memorandum of understanding for political consultations and a visa waiver agreement on diplomatic passports.
