Executive focussed on decreasing inflation

Luanda, ANGOLA, November 27 - The Angolan Executive has been adopting a series of measures intended to reduce inflation, mitigate the impact of the economic and financial crisis and propitiate development for the country, said last Monday the ruling party’s MP, Nuno Carnaval. ,

Nuno Carnaval said so at a debate dubbed “Angola 2017-2022, challenges and political, economic and social perspectives”, held in ZéDú Digital Library, in Luanda.

He explained that there is a vision and attitude from the government focussed on the need to reduce the inflation levels and mitigate the impact of the crisis.

The MP clarified that the measures cover different areas such as the boosting of the non oil productive sector, thus generating more jobs for young people.

On his turn, former opposition UNITA MP, Mfuca Muzemba, who participated in the debate, manifested his scepticism about the possibility of Angola overcoming the crisis in the next two years, despite the efforts of the government towards tackling corruption and bad management of public assets.

Mfuca Muzemba also spoke about the need to implement programmes that promote jobs for young people.

Another participant in the debate, Walter Ferreira, leader of the Juvenile Platform for Citizenship, defended that it is possible for the country to overcome the crisis in the next two years , as long as the Executive changes the strategy of elaborating the state budget and invest more in fundamental sectors and in economic diversification.

On the occasion, Osvaldo Mboco, a member of the “Oficina do Conhecimento” (Knowledge Workshop) association, organisers of the debate, said that Angola is now opening itself to a new paradigm in terms of governance, as a result of the dynamics being promoted by the new Executive.

Despite the fact that the country’s economy is still very much dependent on oil, he said, the Executive is investing in economic diversification and is committed to improving business environment countrywide, with a view to attracting foreign investment.

He stressed that the country’s politicians need to face the challenge for greater openness, democratisation of society and press for the adoption of policies that can be inclusive and participative.

The debate was designed to exchange information about the main challenges facing the country, including its international stance, and stimulate the citizens to make their contribution to Angola’s development.
