Parliament passes draft law on compulsory repatriation of assets
Luanda, ANGOLA, November 13 - National Assembly (Angola's Parliament) Tuesday approved in generality the Draft Law on Compulsory Repatriation and Excess Loss of Assets, providing for procedures for the loss of assets in the favour of the Angolan State.
,
This was during the first extraordinary plenary session of the 2nd legislative session of the National Assembly, chaired by Parliament Speaker, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.
The Text was approved with 124 votes in favour, none against and 50 abstentions (UNITA).
The document was presented by Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Francisco Queiroz.
The Text also stipulates the loss in favour of the State of real estate, movable and financial assets held abroad and in the country.
Theses are goods acquired with money obtained in an unlawful manner from the Angolan State.
Francisco Queiroz clarified at the time that the draft law results from the need to provide investigative bodies and procedural instruction with instruments to handle the cases in which the State's assets have been harmed.
According to the official, the legal instrument does not create new types of crimes, saying that they (crimes) are defined in previous legislation.
The legal instrument sets procedures for the loss of assets in favour of the State, concluded the minister.
