Media Advisory: AER responding to bird fatalities in oil sands area
CALGARY, Alberta , Sept. 19, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is responding to a report of bird fatalities at the Fort Hills Energy oil sands mine north of Fort McMurray.
At present, the company has reported 123 deceased or euthanized waterfowl and songbirds. The company is continuing to monitor and collect the injured and deceased birds.
The AER is working with Fort Hills Energy, the Government of Alberta, and the Government of Canada to ensure that all safety, wildlife, and environmental requirements are met during the response to the incident.
