Eric Lefkofsky -- Liz Lefkofsky Support Human Rights Watch

/EINPresswire.com/ -- CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - January 28, 2016) - Eric Lefkofsky, Chairman and Co-founder of Groupon and Managing Director of Lightbank, and his wife Liz are supporting the Human Rights Watch through their Lefkofsky Family Foundation. Human Rights Watch's focus is to provide a voice for children disrupted by underage marriage in a number of countries, including Bangladesh, Nepal and India.

The Human Rights Watch has pioneered a global campaign aiming to raise the minimum age of marriage to 18 and enforce related laws within the South-Asian region. Data reveals that women who marry as girls are significantly more likely to face health dangers associated with early pregnancy, have lower educational achievement, and have a higher incidence of spousal violence.

The Human Rights Watch's report Marry Before Your House is Swept Away: Child Marriage in Bangladesh was released in June 2015. According to the organization, Bangladesh has the fourth-highest rate of child marriage in the world. The Human Rights Watch was established in 1978 as a non-profit, non-governmental organization with members all over the world. The 400-person staff consists of lawyers, journalists, and academics of diverse nationalities that publish hundreds of reports each year briefing human rights conditions across 90 different countries.
