Shawnee Dentist Adds New Preventive Dentistry Tool
SHAWNEE, KS--(Marketwired - December 17, 2015) - A Shawnee family dentist has added technology that detects tiny cavities or cracked teeth not visible to the naked eye.
/EINPresswire.com/ -- Dr. Mark Manroe, who operates Dental Innovations, added CariVu image technology into his practice. The technology has been available for only one year and uses infrared imaging to identify problem areas in the tooth.
"We cannot only detect cavities when they are smaller and less expensive to fix, but we can actually show the patient on a monitor what the cavity looks like," Dr. Manroe said.
The imaging makes it easier for Dr. Manroe to explain treatment to patients and to prove the dental issue to insurance companies. Dr. Manroe said the new tool lets his dental team detect cavities in areas between teeth that are difficult to identify and better monitor patients' oral health. The device is portable and can be used for patients of all ages.
The CariVu technology is especially useful for patients who do not want an X-ray during every dental checkup or for patients who are pregnant. Dr. Manroe said patients appreciate the additional technology and enjoy seeing what their dentist sees in their mouth. "It is very important to discover cavities while they are small in order to preserve your tooth structure. CariVu is not a replacement for X-rays; it is an additional tool to be used along with conventional X-rays."
Dental Innovations, 11221 Shawnee Mission Pkwy., is a 5,800-square-feet office with 10 operatories and several amenities for patients.
