Climate, Environment, and Conservation: Assistant Secretary Ryan Travels to Paris and Kyiv

Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Evan Ryan will travel to Paris, France from December 3-5 and Kyiv, Ukraine from December 6-8 to engage international stakeholders and U.S. exchange participants on environmental, cross-cultural, and educational diplomacy efforts.

In Paris, Assistant Secretary Ryan will attend events surrounding the 21st UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP21). Most notably, she will participate in the Climate Summit for Local Leaders on December 4. Her participation will build on the “Our Cities, Our Climate” initiative, a partnership between Bloomberg Philanthropies and the U.S. Department of State, which convened international mayors and city officials in October to discuss ways to work together to protect the planet. She will also meet with current American Fulbright Program and Benjamin A. Gilman Program students and scholars to discuss their exchange experience in Paris.

Assistant Secretary Ryan will then travel to Kyiv, Ukraine. There, she will meet officials from the Ministry of Education and Science to discuss ways to increase people-to-people ties and exchanges between the United States and Ukraine. Assistant Secretary Ryan will also engage with current exchange participants and alumni of the Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) program and the Digital Communication Network. In addition, she will attend events in connection with Vice President Biden’s visit.
