Iberdrola to back 32 social projects supporting vulnerable groups
IBERDROLA has finalised its Call for Social Grants 2015, which aims to drive social development and enhance the quality of life of the most vulnerable members of society in the areas of Spain where the company carries out its operations.
A total of 32 projects were selected in this edition. The estimated impact is over 25,000 people and the investment is in excess of €1 million. Each of these initiatives will receive up to a maximum of €40,000 in funding. This should not exceed 50% of the total budget for the project and the project should be completed during 2016.
These social projects, which will be carried out in Spain, are geared towards children, young people and people with disabilities; groups identified as being the most vulnerable in the Europe 2020 strategy to combat poverty and social exclusion in the European Union.
53% of the initiatives selected in 2015 focus on situations linked to covering basic needs, as well as measures designed to improve integration in society and in the work market. The remaining 47% support ill and/or dependent persons, by providing psychosocial support, promoting autonomy and giving comprehensive support to families.
These plans will be implemented by not-for-profit institutions with proven experience in the area of combating social exclusion, disability or serious illnesses, as well as providing support to families affected by unemployment. These include the Spanish Down Syndrome Foundation, Cáritas, the Proyecto Hombre addiction recovery programme, the Spanish Cancer Prevention Association (AECC) and the Menudos Corazones society for helping children with cardiac problems; all of which have been supported by the Fundación Iberdrola España for several years. The foundation is also starting to collaborate with various institutions, such as the Fundación Tomillo and Save the Children.
The criteria of thoroughness, transparency and good governance implemented by these institutions were also taken into account. It was an indispensable requirement that they demonstrate their experience in social projects and for their accounts from the most recent years to have been audited. Another requirement was that their articles of association and documentation be published on their websites.
The list of selected initiatives has been posted on the Fundación Iberdrola España website, www.fundacioniberdrolaespana.org.
