Two of the Top Three US Cable Service Providers Choose Avi Networks Application Delivery Controller (ADC) for Their OpenStack Private Cloud
Avi Networks Delivers Enterprise-Grade Load Balancing as a Service (LBaaS) for OpenStack Through Advanced Analytics, High-Performance Security and High-Availability
/EINPresswire.com/ -- TOKYO, JAPAN--(Marketwired - October 26, 2015) - OpenStack Summit, Booth #T71 - Avi Networks, the next-gen ADC company enabling automation, self-service and elastic scale, today announced that it has successfully deployed its its award-winning ADC as an enterprise-grade, OpenStack-supported load balancing as a service (LBaaS) solution at two of top three US cable service providers. Avi has delivered these advanced capabilities for OpenStack through v15.2 of its software, which is now generally available to all customers.
These customers and others who have upgraded to the v.15.2 software release report three primary reasons for choosing Avi over competitive solutions:
1. Enhanced analytics directly integrated into the OpenStack Horizon user interface that provides improved application visibility, manageability and performance for a better user-experience overall.
2. Next-generation security capabilities including industry firsts in centralized certificate upload & management, SSL/TLS offload, and support for Perfect Forward Secrecy encryption.
3. Flexibility to choose the best high-availability option based on the business and operational requirements.
"Our research indicates that performance and security are the top concerns among enterprises in deploying OpenStack, particularly for private cloud environments," said Zeus Kerravala, founder and principal analyst with ZK Research. "We believe that insufficient pre-deployment testing methodologies coupled with a lack of visibility into the end-to-end infrastructure using legacy, appliance-centric tools are the root causes for these issues."
The OpenStack integrations from Avi Networks in v15.2 overcomes these challenges with the full enterprise-grade features of a traditional ADC appliance but with the operational simplicity of the cloud through a 100 percent software solution. These advantages provide OpenStack users with self-service operations, secure multi-tenancy support, and an on-demand elastic scale for their private and public cloud deployments.
The Avi Networks solution addresses limitations of OpenStack's native networking components, most notably its application analytics, which can impact visibility and resilience. By integrating its full analytics stack into OpenStack Horizon, Avi offers users the benefit real-time visibility and insights into application performance. This gives OpenStack users the ability to troubleshoot application issues in a matter of seconds, compared to hours and days with legacy methods.
"Quickly and effectively diagnosing performance issues in the cloud can be challenging but is a fundamental need for OpenStack admins and devops engineers who are responsible for making sure applications are performing well," said Kamesh Pemmaraju, VP of Product Marketing at Mirantis. "The progress Avi has made in improving application visibility and control complements our efforts that enable customers to deploy rich and complex workloads on OpenStack."
Improvements to application security in OpenStack is another enterprise-grade capability Avi is delivering for OpenStack. Avi is currently the only ADC vendor to offer centralized certificate upload and management for OpenStack versions Havana, IceHouse, Juno, and Kilo using an open-source custom extension tab for Horizon LBaaS. It is also the only ADC to offer SSL/TLS offload in LBaaS for OpenStack versions starting with Havana. Unlike device-centric ADC appliances, Avi offers high-performance SSL/TLS offload with elastic and on-demand scale with its distributed service VMs that run on any x86-based server. Avi also offers the highest performance support for Perfect Forward Secrecy (PFS) support among all ADCs, which is becoming a mandatory requirement in securing modern mobile and cloud-based applications.
Another advancement is Avi's ability to extend high-availability options for OpenStack that make it ready for enterprise-grade application deployments. The current implementation of OpenStack HAProxy does not offer built-in high availability, requiring users to deploy additional, supplemental tools. Using legacy ADCs is an inefficient option because of the requirement to deploy them as active/standby pairs, which wastes 50 percent of capacity by default. Avi offers multiple HA options for OpenStack users based on their specific business and operational requirements. This includes active/active to N+1 format as well as traditional active/standby mode. This allows the OpenStack admin to select the optimal level of HA to meet their application SLAs.
"It's clear that the Avi solution combines network, application, and end-user monitoring with enterprise-grade application delivery to help operations teams gain clear end-to-end insight into their OpenStack cloud infrastructure and maximize application performance based on real-time parameters," Kerravala said. "This makes the Avi ADC ideal for addressing the needs of enterprises and cloud service providers that are building their own OpenStack-based cloud ecosystems and want to build visibility and optimization into their cloud platforms."
