SECU Members and NC Green Power Collaborate on Solar Schools Project

September 2015 - The North Carolina State Employees' Credit Union (SECU) Foundation and NC GreenPower have agreed to expand renewable energy in the state through the Solar Schools project, a pilot program designed to benefit North Carolina public schools. Under the agreement, the SECU Foundation will provide a total investment of up to $140,000 over the next two years to help fourteen K-12 public schools install solar PV systems on their schools' campuses. Qualifying schools must meet NC GreenPower's program requirements. The solar PV systems are anticipated to generate up to 6,570 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity and save participating schools up to $657 per year on energy bills. Prior to this deal, the SECU helped fund projects that have since produced nearly 2 million kWh of renewable energy at North Carolina schools since 2007.
