Northern CA Laundromat Fighting the Drought One Wash at a Time
ROSEVILLE, CA, USA, June 22, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- There is no doubt, California is in a drought. Drive down most any street and you will see brown front lawns and an occasional yard sign touting 'brown is the new green'. From farming to swimming pool sales, the drought has already had a negative impact on all types of water dependent businesses. It has even caused sleepless nights for some California coin laundry owners. However, one Roseville laundromat owner has a completely different view of the situation. Deborah Dower, owner of Paradise Laundry Inc. says, "Contrary to popular belief, a coin laundry actually saves water. If every resident household of three or more used a Laundromat, specifically one with 40lb washer capacity or higher, Roseville would save millions of gallons of water each week. The average family does eight to nine loads of laundry a week. Their home washer probably holds 12 to 18 lbs of laundry and some can use up to 40 gallons of water for each load. At Paradise Laundry, our 90lb washer can wash all of their clothes at one time with a fraction of the water."
California's Governor Jerry Brown has imposed mandatory water reductions, some as high as 32%, on all water districts across the state. In order to meet these reductions, local water agencies are targeting the easiest residential water use they can monitor, outside irrigation. Dower went on to say, "For the past two years we have been limited to the number of days we can water. The drought is so serious this year, Governor Brown has even gone as far to suggest Californians limit their shower time." Dower concluded, "According to the EPA, 21% of residential indoor water is used for doing home laundry. This means by bringing their laundry to Paradise, Roseville residents can go ahead and enjoy a guilt free shower. Not only will they be saving gallons of water, they will save tons of time."
