May 2015 - Austin Energy has finalized a 25-year power purchase agreement for up to 3.2 megawatts (MW) of solar from San Antonio-based PowerFin. Located east of downtown Austin, this community shared solar project will provide affordable, clean electricity to local customers, while reducing electricity costs through reduced fuel use and by mitigating the need for transmission lines to remote areas. The Austin City Council-appointed Local Solar Advisory Committee has estimated that this community solar project will generate approximately $6 million in economic benefits for the area, which include local job creation.
