The varicella zoster virus (VZV, also known as herpes zoster), is a herpes virus that normally causes chickenpox in childhood. The virus may re-activate to cause shingles in later life, and has been linked to a condition known as acute coronary syndrome (ACS). According to study authors, the bottom line is that “…conditions that predispose to vascular disease…are significantly more common in subjects with HZ (3).”
