IBERDROLA PROMOTES QUALITY EMPLOYMENT

Iberdrola is a catalyst for growth and the creation of employment and wealth in all of the countries where it has operations. The company hired a total of 1,800 new employees in 2014, bringing the staff total to 28,000.

The number of direct, indirect and induced jobs generated by Iberdrola worldwide is now 350,000. The group's commitment towards providing training for its staff was once again displayed in 2014, with employees receiving on average 40 hours of training each during the year.

In the last decade there has been a significant increase in Iberdrola's staff numbers following the friendly mergers with ScottishPower, Energy East (now Iberdrola USA) and Brazilian utility Elektro. This multicultural team reflects the company's commitment towards its most important asset: its people and their integrity. 

That is why Iberdrola supports measures that make it easier to achieve a health work-life balance. The company was the first Ibex 35 listed company in Spain to bring in an intensive schedule and the first electric utility to receive the EFR-1000 certification as a company that practises responsible policies for families (Empresa Familiarmente Responsable).   

The intensive working schedule has had a positive impact from the outset, for both employees and the company alike.  Since it was first implemented, Iberdrola has gained 500,000 hours of productivity per year. The bi-annual comparison carried out after the intensive schedule was brought in analysed the accident and absenteeism rates and found that in both cases they had gone down by 10%.  It is noteworthy that 25% of the accidents used to happen in the afternoons after the lunch break.
