WASHINGTON – Tuesday, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Gina McCarthy will travel to Fresno, Calif. to join California Governor Jerry Brown, California High-Speed Rail Authority board members, and other government, community and transportation leaders to commemorate the start of sustained construction on the nation’s first high-speed rail system. By 2029, the system is expected to run from San Francisco to the Los Angeles basin in under three hours. It will contribute to economic development, a cleaner environment, and will create jobs and preserve agricultural and protected lands. The administrator’s remarks will focus on the significant environmental and health benefits of the high-speed system and outline the rail another example of how investing in the environment benefits our economy.
