Stockton, CA-- Antonio C. Tony Amador, retired United States Marshal and candidate vying to replace Jerry McNerney as the congressman for the 9th Congressional District, criticized President Obama Saturday for abdicating his role as commander in chief and ignoring the needs of U.S. veterans.
“Our men and women in uniform must go when and where they are told, regardless of the incompetence of leadership,” Amador said. “It’s the responsibility of the president and members of Congress to provide them with the equipment necessary when ordered into harm’s way against either military opposition or a deadly disease.”
Amador called the deployment of the 101st Airborne division, without the proper Ebola protection gear, another example of Obama’s incompetence and unwillingness to look after the troops that he is ultimately responsible; those that defend this nation.

“If this disease is sufficiently virulent to infect nurses who undergo extreme precautions in a hospital on U.S. soil, just how safe will our military personnel be on the ground in West Africa?” questioned Amador.

“Why hasn't Jerry McNerney said anything about the danger to our troops?” asked Amador. “Either he shares the same lack of concern for our troops or he doesn’t believe the Ebola virus is a threat,” said Amador. “Either way, they are completely neglecting their responsibilities and our military personnel.”
“During his eight years in the House of Representatives, McNerney has repeatedly taken credit for nearly every piece of legislation that could benefit veterans in the district," said Amador. “Yet, it’s impossible to identify one piece of legislation that McNerney has sponsored that was signed into law by a president of his own party,” Amador said. “McNerney has been AWOL as a member of Congress.”
Dealing with the bureaucracy, in this case the Veterans Administration, requires strong leadership and negotiating skills. It also requires cooperation from the House Leadership to convince the Veterans Administration to place the French Camp Veterans facility as a top priority. Presently, this facility is one of the lowest,” Amador stated.
“I have been appointed by governors of both parties to top administrative positions, and I’ve worked effectively with members of both parties. I know what it means to get the job done,” Amador said.
"The veterans of California’s 9th District deserve more than photo ops and press releases from a West Point drop-out who wears bombardier jackets and uses his son’s military experience as if it were his own." Amador said.
