Local authors signed to publish inspiring new memoir.
NORTH CHESTERFIELD, Va. — Tate Publishing announces the signing authors Sharon and Hugh Harris for their new book NPH: Journey into Dementia and Out Again.
Sharon’s inspiration was to help people who might be experiencing the same symptoms, by giving them hope and encouragement. The book has been in the making for about a year as Sharon recovered, and she and Hugh remembered and recorded their experiences, working with notes he kept, as well as medical records.
When asked to define the theme of the book in three words, the couple stated, “Don’t Give Up! ...because we discovered there may still be healing possibilities, even when medical tests are discouraging.”
Published by Tate Publishing and Enterprises, the book will be available upon its release through bookstores nationwide, from the publisher at www.tatepublishing.com/bookstore, or by visiting barnesandnoble.com or amazon.com.
Sharon Harris was inspired to write by her recovery from a brain disorder which affects 5% of all people who are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. After she “came back” to being “herself,” she found people asking what her experience had been like. In addition, Harris’ interest in helping people find hope and resources grows from her professional background in education and in counseling. Hugh, as her husband and caregiver, a retired pastor, and a writer, wanted to help structure and present Sharon’s story.
Harris’ work as a licensed professional counselor put her in contact with families who struggled to deal with overwhelming obstacles, as did Hugh’s career as a pastor. When Harris experienced her own health crisis, their perseverance inspired one doctor to comment, “You taught us to look further, even when facts don’t seem to show definitive results.” Her credibility resides in her first-hand experience of dementia and recovery, her education, her professional stature, and her faith.
Harris is part of the “Boomer” generation. She has experienced and grown through numerous disruptive life events: divorce; single parenthood; periodic health crises; changes of profession; relocations with their attendant upheavals and stresses. She has also been surrounded by loving friends, family and supportive faith communities.
