K. William Gibson to receive ABA award for law practice management excellence
CHICAGO, June 20, 2013 — K. William Gibson, arbitrator and mediator of Gibson Mediation in Portland, Ore., will receive the Samuel S. Smith Award from the American Bar Association’s Law Practice Management Section. The award is presented annually to an individual who has demonstrated excellence in law practice management. He will receive the award at a reception Aug. 9 during the ABA Annual Meeting in San Francisco.
Gibson, a former LPM Section chair, serves on the Law Practice Magazine Board and the Strategy and Planning Committee. He is the immediate past president of the College of Law Practice Management and is a current fellow and trustee. He is author of How to Build and Manage a Personal Injury Practice, editor of Flying Solo: A Survival Guide for Solo and Small Firm Lawyers and was a columnist for Law Practice Magazine for several years.
“I am very pleased to see that Bill Gibson has been chosen as this year’s honoree,” said Joan Bullock, chair of the ABA Law Practice Management Section. “Over the years, Bill’s commitment and dedication to improving the professional lives of lawyers make him the quintessential person to receive LPM’s prestigious Sam Smith Award. Bill is a stalwart leader in law practice management and has garnered the well-deserved respect and admiration of his peers.”
The Samuel S. Smith Award, named in honor of the late Samuel S. Smith, a founding member and early chair of the section who later became ABA treasurer, was established in 1999 to mark the section’s 25th anniversary. It is the highest honor bestowed by LPM, recognizing an individual who has demonstrated outstanding lifetime achievement in the field of law practice management.
