Team GT logs two wins and 10 podium finishes in LOORRS finale at Firebird.
Fort Mill, SC – November 7, 2012. It was a wild finish to the 2012 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) season at Firebird International Raceway that saw General tires drive Carl Renezeder to two more wins to wrap up the year. Team GT posted two wins and 10 podium finishes on the weekend as teams regroup and prepare for 2013. Overall General tires helped Team GT members to 11 wins and more than 40 podium finishes in 2012.
“Congratulations to all our teams on their accomplishments in 2012,” said Travis Roffler, director of marketing for General Tire. “Every member of Team GT has worked tirelessly this year to reach the top of the podium. Their dedication and determination is second-to-none and we’re looking forward to an even stronger run in 2013.”
“The Lucas Oil Challenge Cup is always crazy,” said Renezeder. “When you put money and bragging rights on the line without any championship implications, things can get out of hand. We had a perfect day and a perfect race, and that’s why we were able to win. We avoided the carnage and the truck was exactly how I love it – I could put it anywhere and it would work. I’m incredibly proud of our team and the way we’ve worked through the adversity of the first half of the season to finish with five wins over the last two events.”
In addition to Renezeder’s Pro-4 win on day one, Casey Currie captured a second-place finish in Pro Lite and Ryan Hagy also crossed the line second in Super Lite. Also rolling on General’s, Dave Mason posted a third-place in Pro Buggy, Eric Hunter finished third in Super Lite, and Kevin McCullough and Jim Price finished second and third respectively in Limited Buggy. The second day of action saw Renezeder garner his second win of the weekend and Hagy finish a solid third in Super Lite action.
As the sun sets on the 2012 LOORRS season, Team GT members are looking ahead to 2013. But in order to plan, one must reflect and that’s exactly what Renezeder has done.
“We made several wholesale changes on both trucks before the start of this season, so we felt like we were chasing the fine-tuning all year,” commented Renezeder. “I also had some of the worst luck of my career on the track – it was pretty disheartening at times. But, we used everything as a learning experience and kept the faith that if we continued to work hard then good luck would find us. It all came together in Las Vegas with three wins in four races, including my 100th career short-course win. Capping off the season with the Lucas Oil Cup win was a perfect way to end the year.”
When it comes to the off-season, our bet is that you will find most Team GT members testing, preparing and planning to be championship contenders in 2013.
“We’ve been thinking about 2013 for several months already.” Renezeder continued, “We have several things we want to test on both trucks during the off-season, and ideally we’ll pick up in March right where we left off this weekend – with competitive, winning trucks.”
