HappyHealth Comments On How Seniors Will Fair Under ObamaCare

/EINPresswire.com/ How will seniors fare under ObamaCare? According to Mary Albert, a writer for HappyHealth.net, a health advocate and teacher who has helped many with health-related issues, the answer is both good and bad. First the good news. Over 30 million Americans are currently without any kind of health care. However, Albert says that with ObamaCare, if you are a senior without health insurance you will now have access to the coverage you need. Additionally, "Under ObamaCare, seniors with pre-existing conditions cannot be denied coverage nor, can they be dropped once an illness is identified," says Albert.

And now for the bad news. About 4.8 million seniors will be forced out of Medicare Advantage. According to Albert, "Medicare Advantage is a private insurance plan which offers benefits that cover what Medicare covers but not in exactly the same way. For example, plans that might have a higher out-of-pocket cost for nursing facility care could have lower doctor's co-payments." Another benefit to Medicare Advantage, says Albert, is that a particular private insurance plan could offer services not covered by Medicare such as vision coverage and hearing coverage. "Medicare Advantage plans also have an out-of-pocket maximum so individuals are protected against overwhelming medical bills. If you reach that maximum within a calendar year your Medicare Advantage plan will pay 100% of Medicare approved services."

Obamacare also has a $66 billion payment cut for home health services. "As we get older the need for skilled nursing services and home health services can grow," according to Albert. "Medicare can pay for vital needs like catheter changes, tube feedings, wound care and injections. Licensed nurses also can observe and assess a patient's condition as well as evaluating a patient's plan of care. And with such a large cut for these services many seniors may be in trouble," says Albert.
