Utah – A mother has filed a complaint against a judge after he purportedly ordered her to cut off her teenager’s hair. As reported by Deseret News, Valerie Bruno filed the complaint against 7th District Juvenile Judge Scott Johansen after he allegedly ordered her to cut her 13-year-old’s ponytail off to reduce her sentence for an alleged assault.
As noted in the report, Bruno’s daughter was referred to Johansen’s court after she and a friend cut off the hair of a toddler at a McDonald’s restaurant.
The judge is quoted in the report as stating to Bruno in court, “I'm going to give you this option: I will cut that by 150 hours if you want to cut her hair right now.”
Bruno is further quoted by the Deseret News as stating of the matter, “I guess I should have went into the courtroom knowing my rights, because I felt very intimidated…An eye for an eye, that's not how you teach kids right from wrong.”
