Colorado Springs, CO – Firefighters were working to combat a massive wildfire, when a plane used in the effort crashed. As reported by KSLA, the accident involving a C-130 military plane, left at least two people dead and at least one other person injured.
As noted in the report, planes used in the firefighting effort were grounded as a result of the crash.
Lt. Col. Robert Carver is quoted in the report as stating of the fatal crash, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost their lives and to those of who were injured and especially to the family members of these Airmen.”
The outbreak of wildfires is said to be one of the worst in Colorado’s history, having displaced over 36,000 people as of Friday.
President Obama, who visited with firefighters in the state Friday, is quoted as stating Saturday during a weekly radio and Internet address, “We're going to continue to make sure that the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Forest Service, our military and National Guard and all the resources that we have available at the federal level are brought to bear in fighting this fire.”
