Don't be a Chicken: Agriculture Minister Extends Tasty Challenge to MPs for a Good Cause
Ottawa, Ontario, April 25, 2012 - Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz will be firing up the barbecue to test his favourite recipe for grilled chicken sandwich. It is all part of Chicken Farmers of Canada's (CFC) "Everyone Wins with Canadian Chicken" campaign and recipe contest to support Canada's food banks.
"As Canadians we have much to be thankful for, particularly the hard work of farmers and producers, like those with Chicken Farmers of Canada, who deliver high-quality food to our grocery stores," said Minister Ritz. "I congratulate CFC on this creative campaign and challenge my fellow members of Parliament to participate."
CFC launched the recipe contest among members of Parliament for the benefit of food banks across Canada.
Winners will receive a donation from CFC to a food bank in their riding:
- First Prize: $10,000 donation
- Second Prize: $5,000 donation
- Third Prize: $2,500 donation
The winning recipe will also be served at the Great Canadian Chicken BBQ in Ottawa on Canada Day.
Food Banks Canada is a national charitable organization representing the food bank community across Canada. The group depends on financial and gifts-in-kind support to reduce hunger in Canada.
CFC represents over 2,700 family farms across the country, driving jobs and growth and helping to ensure that the chicken that reaches consumers is safe, delicious and raised to the highest standards.
