Western Hemisphere: Deputy Secretary's Travel to Mexico August 15-17
Press Statement
Department Spokesperson, Office of the Spokesperson
Deputy Secretary Bill Burns will visit Mexico August 15-17, 2011. Building upon President Calderon’s visit in March and the U.S.-Mexico Merida High-Level Consultative Group meeting co-chaired by the Secretary in April, the Deputy Secretary will advance the U.S.-Mexico strategic partnership in promoting democracy, security, and prosperity around the world.
Deputy Secretary Burns will travel to Mexico City where he will meet with Foreign Secretary Espinosa, other senior government officials, opinion leaders, and journalists. The Deputy Secretary’s visit will reinforce our already strong dialogue focused on enhancing U.S.-Mexico cooperation on a wide range of issues. These include joint efforts under the Merida Initiative partnership to build strong, resilient communities and a secure, efficient 21st century border as well as economic prosperity, regional cooperation, and youth and civil society participation in confronting shared challenges.
