OEA Lauds Ontario’s New Environment Plan
TORONTO, Nov. 29, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Ontario Energy Association (OEA) commends the Government of Ontario for its new environment plan: “Preserving and Protecting our Environment for Future Generations: A Made-in-Ontario Environment Plan”.
Among the many proposed climate actions that the OEA strongly supports are the following:
- Removing barriers to the increased adoption of low carbon vehicles
- Expanding natural gas conservation programs
- Supporting the integration of emerging smart grid technologies and distributed resources – including energy storage – to harness and make best use of Ontario’s clean electricity
- Implementing a voluntary renewable natural gas option for customers
- Removing barriers to the expansion of compressed natural gas refueling stations and maintaining the existing tax exemption on natural gas as a transportation fuel
The OEA is pleased that these initiatives in the government’s plan reflect recommendations made in the OEA’s recently released climate strategy submission: Continuing Achievement.
In addition, the OEA strongly supports the new environment plan’s proposal to undertake impact and vulnerability assessments for key sectors, including energy distribution. This is a welcome new initiative.
“The OEA applauds the government for its new plan for addressing climate change. This plan puts forward initiatives that are practical, affordable and achievable,” said Vince Brescia, President & CEO of the Ontario Energy Association. “We look forward to working with the provincial government on implementing its new plan.”
