Building on Success in Minnesota, Math Corps Continues National Expansion
AmeriCorps program expanded to Georgia.
MINNEAPOLIS, MN, USA, October 1, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- ST. PAUL, MN (October 1, 2018) — Building on success in Minnesota, Math1 Corps —an AmeriCorps program that works to help students who are struggling in math, continues national expansion with a new program launch in Georgia.Using a proven model for student success, Math Corps trains and places tutors to use research-based instruction to help students in grades 4-8 gain foundational math skills. Achievement in early math is a great predictor of future academic and economic success. In fact, 90 percent of sixth graders who fail math will not graduate from high school. Since 2008, more than 20,000 students have been served in Minnesota.
Launched in partnership with Commodore Conyers College & Career Academy (4C Academy), Georgia Math Corps began serving students in Albany, GA in September. In its first year, the program will have tutors at eight schools and will serve 700 students.
Expansion to Georgia isn’t the only exciting news for Math Corps. The results from a year-long randomized controlled trial funded by the Laura and John Arnold Foundation concluded that Math Corps has a meaningful impact for students in every grade served (4-8). The study confirmed that Math Corps students are making greater gains than their peers who don’t receive math intervention. In fact, Math Corps students get on track faster—an average of 2-3 months ahead of their expected trajectory. The program is currently offered in three states: Minnesota, Michigan and Georgia.
With the school year underway, Math Corps is recruiting tutors to serve in Minnesota. Tutors should apply now to begin in January. Both fulltime and part-time opportunities are available, and the need is greatest in the Twin Cities and Saint Cloud. To learn more, please visit: www.readingandmath.net or call 1-866-859-2825.
