Max Ratchkauskas: Using the Camera to Connect
NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of New York artist Max Ratchkauskas in Illumination: An Exhibition of Fine Art Photography
NEW YORK, NY, USA, October 27, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- “As a figurative travel photographer,” Max Ratchkauskas says, “it is important for me that my work reflects the essence of what I am capturing.” To do just that, he works to keep the connection between the camera and its subject as pure as possible. Forgoing digital manipulation for the most part, he relies on a variety of lenses, as well as a highly developed sensitivity to light, composition, and angle, to turn the animals, people, and landscapes that he photographs into components of a personal vision.Printing on canvas and metal, Ratchkauskas exhibits a sharp eye for the dynamics of color, employing bold contrasts and delicate shifts in tone. This gives each image movement and depth, pulling the viewer’s eye toward its central point. The photographer is also skilled at using focus in a way that lets him bring many textures to life, all with a sense of clarity and a powerful, direct physicality. “My work represents our world as a whole: chaotic, beautiful, and provoking,” he says. “I try to capture all of its unique parts one frame at a time.”

About the Exhibition
The World As We (May Not) Know It
Illumination: An Exhibition of Fine Art Photography presents photojournalism, landscapes, and abstraction in a show that flourishes with the possibilities of the medium. On a scale from monochrome to hyper-saturation, the photographs presented are a compilation of some of the best fine art photography in today’s art market, featuring nine artists from across the globe. These artists have put their finely-honed skills to the test in presenting us with an exhibition that confronts us, challenges us, and engages us with a vast, complicated, and very real world.
