GridX Connects U.S. Biotech Investors with Latin America's Untapped Innovation Potential
GridX, Latin America's largest biotechnology investment fund and company builder, is set to begin its international Roadshow featuring 21 innovative startups across three strategic U.S. cities, bringing Latin American biotech innovation to North American investors.
The highly anticipated tour kicks off this week in Tulsa (April 23), followed by New York (April 29), and concluding in San Francisco (May 5), connecting Latin America's most promising biotech ventures with U.S. capital markets. This initiative aims to leverage the region's exceptional biodiversity and growing talent pool to attract investment into its burgeoning biotechnology sector.
"Latin America represents an untapped frontier in biotechnology with unique competitive advantages," said Matias Peire, CEO & cofounder of GridX. "Our goal is to bridge these innovative startups with global investors who can propel their growth while benefiting from early access to groundbreaking technologies."
The Roadshow enjoys support from industry leaders including Amazon Web Services, Tulsa-based Atento Capital, and SynBioBeta. Notable speakers include SynBioBeta founder John Cumbers and Po Bronson, managing director of Indie Bio, the world's leading biotech accelerator.
The carefully selected startups span four strategic verticals: Human Health, Agri-food and Land Use, Bio-industry, and Deep Biotech. Each company showcases solutions that leverage Latin America's competitive advantages in scientific talent and biological resources.
Despite the current slower venture capital environment, biotechnology startups are attracting attention for their potential to revolutionize healthcare, particularly in obesity treatment and genetic disease management, accelerated by advancements in artificial intelligence.
Latin America's R&D ecosystem boasts over one million highly qualified researchers and technicians, predominantly based in academic institutions, enabling the formation of world-class entrepreneurial teams at competitive costs. Additionally, the region's natural resources, particularly from Amazon basin countries containing approximately 10% of the world's known biodiversity, provide exceptional genetic resources for innovative R&D.
GridX has built an impressive portfolio of 81 biotechnology startups with founding teams from seven countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Uruguay, establishing the most diverse biotechnology startup community in Latin America.
