New Torque Wrench for Pin Fastening Applications By Mountz Inc.

/EINPresswire.com/ San Jose, Calif., - Mountz Inc. introduces a new cam-over torque wrench designed with a "Through Hole Spindle" for Pin Fastening applications, which cannot be gripped in the conventional manner. Fasteners such as HI-LITE(R), AERO-LITE(R) and VERI-LITE(R), are threaded pins with a close tolerance design intended for applications where aerodynamic and precision fastening is required. These 'blind' fasteners are increasingly being used in the aerospace industry.

Accurate tightening of blind fasteners can be achieved with this new innovative torque wrench. The "Through Hole Spindle" design of the wrench makes it simple for the operator to use and ensures precision torque control. The "Through Hole Spindle" torque wrench operates by having a hexagon key is passed down the axis of the square drive shaft to hold a fastener in position while its securing nut is tightened by an operator using the torque wrench.

The "Through Hole Spindle" torque wrench is a pre-set torque wrench that's ideal for maintenance and production applications where over-torque conditions are not tolerated. Built with a cam-over design, the accurate torque wrench prevents a fastener or bolt from being over-torqued. The design action of the cam-over torque wrench is such that when the tool reaches its pre-set torque value the mechanism disengages from the drive thus limiting the torque applied. Designed for variety of industries like aerospace, automotive, electronics, energy, medical, and packaging, the Mountz Inc. cam-over torque wrench ensures proper torque control.

A pre-set torque wrench is similar to a person setting an alarm clock to signal the achievement of a selected time. The torque wrench is pre-set to the required torque value of the application and then the tool signals the operator when torque is achieved.

Inside the cam-over torque wrench, a precision radial ball clutch "slips-free" when the pre-set torque is reached preventing the fastener from being over-torqued. The use of a cam-over torque wrench takes the operator influence out of the torque equation and offers more accurate and repeatable results than a standard 'click' type wrench. A click wrench typically breaks about 3 degrees after set torque is reached and then becomes positive. If the operator continues to pull on the click wrench, he or she can over tighten the fastener.

The cam-over torque wrench features a tamper-proof internal adjustment. There is no external adjustment scale so the wrench must be preset using a torque analyzer. Crafted with a soft texture grip, Mountz offers various "Through Hole Spindle" torque wrench models covering a torque range from 2 foot-pounds up to 90 foot-pounds.

Controlling torque is essential for companies to ensure their product's quality, safety and reliability isn't compromised. The failure of a three-cent fastener that isn't properly tightened can lead to catastrophic or latent failures. Fasteners that are insufficiently torqued can vibrate loose and excessive torque can strip threaded fasteners. Using a quality torque wrench has become increasingly important for many companies to ensure that proper torque is being applied and maintains gauge requirements associated with the ISO 9001 Quality Standard.
