IT Governance announces GDPR classroom training course in Boston, Massachusetts

IT Governance, the global cybersecurity experts.

WYOMING, UNITED STATES, October 25, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- IT Governance, a leading supplier of EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance solutions, is kicking off its new GDPR classroom training course on November 28, 2017 in Boston, MA.

The GDPR classroom course is a comprehensive introduction to the GDPR, conveying a practical understanding of the implications and legal requirements for businesses. Awareness of the GDPR is vital for business directors and managers responsible for GDPR compliance who want to understand how the Standard will affect their organization.

The GDPR marks the most important change in data privacy regulation in the 21st century: replacing the Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC, it promises to harmonize data privacy laws across Europe, protecting and extending the data rights of EU individuals. It outlines a set of data subject rights that represents a dramatic shift in data transparency and the empowerment of data subjects. These include the right to breach notification, data portability, data access, and the right to have one’s data forgotten. Organizations must design their systems to incorporate data privacy and assign data protection officers (DPOs) for internal record-keeping requirements.

Most crucially for US organizations, the GDPR laws and requirements will apply to all companies processing the personal data of EU residents, irrespective of where the company itself is located. This increased territorial scope will take effect from May 25, 2018. After this date, US organizations found in breach of the GDPR may face fines of up to 4% of annual global turnover or €20 million (about $21 million) – whichever is greater – and suffer reputational damage.

Alan Calder, founder and executive chairman of IT Governance, said: “Training is key to achieving best practice in data protection and information security. Organizations will need to have managers in place who understand the requirements of the GDPR.

“Our high-quality training courses have been designed to equip those at the forefront of data security with the specialist knowledge and skills to implement controls for the prevention of data breaches. We’re pleased to offer a choice of GDPR training formats to suit their needs and circumstances.”

The classroom course in Boston will be the first of its kind, delivered by IT Governance GDPR-expert William Gamble. The one-day course includes an exam that, if successfully passed, awards attendees the ISO 17024-accredited EU GDPR Foundation (EU GDPR F) qualification by IBITGQ.
