Lutheran World Relief Responds to Hurricane Matthew in Haiti

Agency Is Mobilizing Emergency Relief and Will Assist Farmers With Damaged Crops

/EINPresswire.com/ -- BALTIMORE, MD--(Marketwired - October 04, 2016) - Lutheran World Relief, an international relief and development agency, is responding to the immediate needs of people in Haiti affected by Hurricane Matthew, mobilizing emergency relief in collaboration with the ACT Alliance, a global faith-based humanitarian coalition, and local partners. LWR is also making plans to assist farmers in the north whose crops will likely be damaged in the storm.

LWR has worked in Haiti since 1997 to support farmers, increase food security, strengthen agricultural cooperatives and protect natural resources. After Haiti's devastating 2010 earthquake, LWR provided material resources and support to restore lost livelihoods, while also working to support rural communities taking in those displaced by the disaster.

Currently, LWR programs increase poor rural farming communities' participation in market value chains, improve food security and promote reforestation in northern Haiti.
