Hemp, Inc. (OTC Pink: HEMP) Hosts Students for Sensible Drug Policy Soiree

/EINPresswire.com/ -- Hemp, Inc. (OTC PINK: HEMP) hosted the Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) soiree Monday, September 19, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada as an effort to support SSDP's movement to provide meaningful resources to Nevada's youth. The SSDP mission has been to mobilize and empower young people to participate in the political process and push for more sensible drug policies in order to achieve a safer and more just future, while at the same time fighting against the current counterproductive Drug War policies, particularly those that directly harm students and youth.

Bruce Perlowin, CEO of Hemp, Inc. (OTC PINK: HEMP) said, "In essence, our industries (the industrial hemp industry and the cannabis industry) are fighting for the same thing... more sensible policies for our industries. Hemp, Inc. believes industrial hemp needs to be de-scheduled and we also support the cannabis industry in their efforts."

Betty Aldworth, Executive Director for SSDP, who spoke at the event, said, "We primarily focus on helping to create healthy approaches for youth to incorporate cannabis in their social life. We provide a vast array of resources including regional conferences where students can connect with other students and work with Outreach Coordinators or 'Coaches'. While we primarily focus on cannabis, we do have some students who support industrial hemp also."

Ms. Aldworth joined the SSDP team in 2014. Prior to her work in cannabis and drug policy, Ms. Aldworth spent a decade motivating and engaging volunteers as a nonprofit leadership professional in Denver, CO. She was also the spokesperson and advocacy director for Colorado's Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol, the first to make marijuana legal for adult use.

One of SSDP's campaign is their "Good Samaritan" policy (also known as Medical Amnesty Policies) which is a life-saving measure which enables "people to make responsible decisions by shielding them from punishment when they call for medical help during an emergency relating to alcohol or other drugs." According to ssdp.org, the "threat of punitive policies can often cause hesitation during confusing and stressful party situations, the existence of a Call 911 Good Samaritan Policy is essential to ensuring that people are able to stay alive and receive help when they are in trouble."

That's not to say SSDP condones drug use. In fact, they neither condone or condemn drug use. They respect the individual right for someone to make their own decision about their own health and well-being. "We encourage honest conversation about the realities of the drug war. We promote youth civic engagement as a critical tool in reforming drug policy. SSDP respects the diverse experiences and identities of our constituents. We develop leaders who advocate for policy changes based on justice, liberty, compassion and reason."

With the country's largest industrial hemp processing facility and milling operation, Hemp, Inc. (OTC PINK: HEMP) is one of the major players in the industrial hemp industry, as well. As a strategically positioned leader of the re-emerging industrial hemp industry, the publicly traded company seeks to process industrial hemp and manufacture products made from hemp, as well as Lost Circulation Material (LCM) and other absorbent materials.

"The industrial hemp industry and cannabis industry are steadily making progress toward full legalization. We are definitely ahead of the curve. Take a look at our 2016 crops. We just recently showcased a portion of our Kenaf (a cousin plant to hemp) and industrial hemp crops on www.hempincpresents.com. We have 420 acres of Kenaf crops in North Carolina and a joint venture with 53 acres of industrial hemp in Nevada and we are working with farmers to plant thousands of acres of hemp next year. With the amount of rain expected this week, it's possible that the Kenaf may grow another 12 inches or more, before it's time to harvest." said Perlowin. David Schmitt, COO of Hemp, Inc.'s wholly owned subsidiary Industrial Hemp Manufacturing, LLC has been overseeing the whole progress with Hemp, Inc.'s multipurpose decortication facility in Spring Hope, North Carolina. With over 70,000 square feet over 9 acres, Hemp, Inc.'s multipurpose industrial hemp processing facility is the only one in the U.S. of this scale and magnitude.

ABOUT INDUSTRIAL HEMP

Hemp is a durable natural fiber that is grown as a renewable source for raw materials that can be incorporated into thousands of products. It's one of the oldest domesticated crops known to man. Hemp is used as a nutritional food product for humans and pets, building materials, paper, textiles, cordage, organic body care and other nutraceuticals, just to name a few. It has thousands of other known uses. A hemp crop requires half the water alfalfa uses and can be grown without the heavy use of pesticides. Farmers worldwide grow hemp commercially for fiber, seed, and oil for use in a variety of industrial and consumer products. The United States is the only developed nation that fails to cultivate industrial hemp as an economic crop on a large scale, according to the Congressional Resource Service. However, with rapidly changing laws and more states gravitating towards industrial hemp and passing an industrial hemp bill, that could change. Currently, the majority of hemp sold in the United States is imported from China and Canada, the world's largest exporters of the industrial hemp crop.

HEMP, INC.'S TRIPLE BOTTOM LINE

Hemp, Inc. (OTC PINK: HEMP) seeks to benefit many constituencies from a "Cultural Creative" perspective, thereby not exploiting or endangering any group. CEO of Hemp, Inc., Bruce Perlowin, is positioning the company as a leader in the industrial hemp industry, with a social and environmental mission at its core. Thus, the publicly traded company believes in "up streaming" a portion of its profits back to its originator, in which some cases will one day be the American small farmer -- cultivating natural, sustainable products as an interwoven piece of nature. By Hemp, Inc. focusing on comprehensive investment results -- that is, with respect to performance along the interrelated dimensions of people, planet, and profits -- the triple bottom line approach can be an important tool to support its sustainability goal.
