LONDON, UK, October 27, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Capitoline, the world’s leading provider of data centre audits and certification, has introduced an audit and certification service to the new EN50600 data centre standard. Capitoline is pleased to have launched the service with a major pan-European manufacturing company in the food and drink sector.

EN 50600 Information technology. Data centre facilities and infrastructures

EN50600 is Europe’s new data centre facilities and infrastructure standard published by CENELEC. CENELEC is the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization and is responsible for standardization in the electrotechnical engineering field. EN50600 is published in each EU member state as the national standard for data centres. Under the EU Directive on Public Procurement organisations in Europe spending public money must use CEN, CENELEC or ETSI standards where they exist.

EN50600 has five infrastructure components

• EN 50600-1:2012 Data centre facilities and infrastructures. General concepts
• EN 50600-2-1:2014 Data centre facilities and infrastructures. Building construction
• EN 50600-2-2:2014 Data centre facilities and infrastructures. Power distribution
• EN 50600-2-3:2014 Data centre facilities and infrastructures. Environmental control
• EN 50600-2-4:2015 Data centre facilities and infrastructures. Telecommunications cabling
• EN 50600-2-5(draft) 2-5. Data centre facilities and infrastructures. Security systems

EN50600 has four levels or classes of operation to describe resilience and redundancy in the data centre for facilities and utility design and operation.

In the near future there will be an EN 50600 data centre management standard which will be the world’s first data centre management standard and Capitoline will offer an audit and assessment to that standard to augment Capitoline’s existing DCOM Operational Management programme.

Capitoline

Capitoline, headquartered in the UK, is an independent engineering consultancy specializing in data center design, audit and training. Capitoline started the world’s first data centre training in 2005 and has extensive experience in auditing and training in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Capitoline has become the world leader for manufacturer-independent data centre training and auditing. This experience has been reflected by Capitoline being a member of the British Standards Institute committee contributing to the development of the EN 50600 standard.

The Audit

The EN 50600 audit consists of an in-depth review of architectural, electrical, mechanical and telecommunications cabling designs or physically installed plant on site. The audit report contains

• A Single Point of Failure analysis on electrical, mechanical and data cabling
• A gap analysis against the EN 50600 standard
• An improvement report
• An environmental report covering temperature, humidity, air flow, sound and lighting
• A Health & Safety report specific to data centres
• An infra-red thermal imaging analysis to identify hot spots and potentially failing equipment
• Site certification to the appropriate EN 50600 resilience rating

Relationship to other standards

EN50600 is a physical infrastructure standard that provides an ideal complement to the ISO27001 standard on Information Security Management. ISO27001 and ISO27002 require a statement that “Equipment shall be protected from power failures and other disruptions caused by failures in supporting utilities” and “Information processing facilities shall be implemented with redundancy sufficient to meet availability requirements.” Both PCI DSS and the ISO27001 standards require a demonstration of site physical security. An EN 50600 audit is the ideal method to demonstrate compliance to ISO 27001 and PCI DSS.
