Fun Family Cinema Returns this Fall for 7th Annual KidCinemaFest Film Festival in New York
More Than 30 Films From Over 25 Countries For All Ages Free Entrance. All Foreign Language Films are Subtitled in English October 23 - 30, 2015
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK, U.S.A, October 3, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Cine Art Entertainment Productions, in collaboration with Councilman Ydanis Rodríguez, Alianza Dominicana Cultural Center and Catholic Charities proudly presents the 7th annual edition of KidCinemaFest New York, October 23-30, 2015. The Festival aims to enrich children's appreciation for filmmaking and cultural diversity through a program of over 30 films that includes documentary and fiction films as well as animations from 25 countries in Europe, North America, Latin America, Africa and Asia. The festival welcomes attendees of all ages to view some of the most exciting, smart and reflective movies of this decade. Entrance is free and all foreign language films are subtitled in English.KidCinemaFest opens October 23, 7:00pm at Alianza Dominicana Cultural Center with the animated film SON OF THE SEA from Academy Award nominee director Tomm Moore. This French animation for all ages, tells the story of Ben and his little sister Saoirse – the last Seal-child – who embark on a fantastic journey across a fading world of ancient legend and magic in an attempt to return to their home by the sea. The film takes inspiration from the mythological Selkies of Irish folklore, whose live as seals in the sea but become humans on land.
KidCinemaFest venues are: Alianza Dominicana Cultural Center (530 West 166th Street and Amsterdam), Casita Maria in the South Bronx (928 Simpson St at 163rd Street) CUNY in the Heights (5030 Broadway at 213th), Comisionado Dominicano de Cultura en USA (541 West 145th St (2nd Floor), Beacon MS 326 (401 West 164th Street, New York, NY 10032 and public schools throughout Washington Heights, Inwood, Marble Hill and the Bronx. The event is free and open to anyone and everyone who wishes to attend!
KidCinemaFest closes on October 30th, at at Alianza Dominicana Cultural Center with the Argentinian film EL INVENTOR DE JUEGOS (The Games Maker) for ages 8 plus, directed by Juan Pablo Buscarini. For young Ivan Drago, it all begins with a simple competition in a comic book: a challenge to invent a game. Evolving from an introverted boy into a talented inventor, he proves that with an abundance of imagination everything is possible.
As the film festival founder and director, Armando Guareño says, “This year’s film program strives to enrich the lives of children through the art of cinema, enabling children and families to learn from different cultures without having to leave New York City.” While Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez shares similar thoughts on the festival, “As a longtime supporter of the KidsCinemaFest, I'm incredibly proud of the success the program has enjoyed. Over a few short years it has grown to the preeminent children's film festival in New York City, broadening the cultural horizons of hundreds.”
The program also includes Alê Abreu’s film O MENINO E O MUNDO (Boy and the World) a Brazilian animation (for all ages); from the USA BUBBLE BUBBLE MEOWS AND THE METEOR STOMACHACHE by Matt Orefice (For all ages); KAHLIL GRBRAN: THE PROPHET (ages 12+) by various director including Tomm Moore and produced by Salma Hayek; the hilarious Mexican adventure LA FÓRMULA DEL DOCTOR FUNES (Doctor Fune’s Formula) directed by . José Bull (all ages); the beautiful Mexican animation LA INCREÍBLE HISTORIA DEL NIÑO DE PIEDRA (The incredible story of stone boy) Directed by Pablo Aldrete, Jaime Romadía, Miguel Bonilla, Miguel Ángel Uriegas (all ages); and PATEMA INVERTED by the well-known Japanese director Yasuhiro Yoshiura (Ages 10+).
A series of short films will be shown, including Kid Flix Mix, a colorful collection of short films from around the world. This collection is suited for our youngest audiences (ages 3 and up); Party Mix, a collection of hilarious, heartfelt and beautiful short films from around the world, suitable for older kids (ages 9 and up), and ¡Viva! A showcase of the best of Spanish and Latin American short, this diverse 75-minute selection was chosen from over five years of New York International Children Film Festival short film programs. All films in this program are from or feature stories about Spain and Latin America.
