College Kids from 50 States Attend Symposium to Learn How to Combat Cancer with Cotton Swabs
BOCA RATON, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES, August 12, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation, the first national bone marrow registry in the world to utilize cheek swabs to test donors on a large scale at donor recruitment drives, will kick off their Campus Ambassador Program on August 14th -16th with the First Annual Campus Ambassador Symposium.
College students from all fifty states, from Harvard to the University of Hawaii, will gather in Boca Raton, Florida, for Gift of Life’s Campus Ambassador Symposium to learn how they can personally combat cancer in America.
As Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation’s Ambassadors, each student will run a series of
bone marrow drives on their college campuses, with the goal of swabbing the inside of thousands of student’s mouths with a Q-Tip. This will result in a total of 100,000 new people added to Gift of Life’s bone marrow registry during the 2015-2016 school year.
The Symposium will take place at Boca Raton Marriott at Boca Center, where students will be further educated on the organization, the cheek swab and transplant process, how to promote campus drives, as well as hear compelling survivor and donor recipient stories. Keynote speakers will include Gift of Life’s CEO, Jay Feinberg, Dr. Uwe Heine, Associate Vice President and Technical Director of DNA Identification at LabCorp, and Doug Gribbin, the grandfather of Sami Dagasson, a little girl from Florida who has Fanconi Anemia, and is in desperate need of a bone marrow match.
