'Awkward' Star Evan Williams Gets Spooky in the Upcoming Film 'Farhope Tower'
Evan Williams from the hit MTV series "Awkward" stars in the upcoming film "Farhope Tower," which will have its world premiere at the 2015 Film4 FrightFest.
LOS ANGELES, CA, USA, August 8, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Canadian actor Evan Williams, who stars as Luke on the MTV comedy series "Awkward," takes his craft to the dark side as Andre in the psychological thriller film "Farhope Tower," which is slated to have its world premiere at the renowned Film4 FrightFest in London on August 29.In the film, five paranormal investigators, including Williams' character Andre, a highly intuitive medium, set out on a journey to discover the sinister secrets of the infamous Farhope Tower in hopes of landing a Reality TV deal.
Once inside, the investigators' mental states begin to waver as they face some of the most powerful spirits they've ever encountered, an unexplainable phenomenon that only grows stronger and more dangerous as they ascend the levels of the ever-changing tower.
"I had so much fun playing a medium, I've always been a spiritual person and, to dial that up and be the sensitive one was an opportunity I've rarely had. I did all kinds of research on the Internet, it's kind of a rabbit hole for the paranormal and I just fell right down it," admits Williams.
"Farhope Tower" was directed by April Mullen, the director behind the multi-award winning film "Rock, Paper, Scissors: The Way of the Tosser," as well as "Dead Before Dawn 3D," "88" and "GravyTrain."
For the film to be selected to have its world premiere at the Film4 FrightFest speaks volumes about the level of horror viewers can expect from "Farhope Tower."
In addition to the film's spine-chilling storyline, Williams says that the filming locations for "Farhope Tower" were equally as frightening.
"We shot the film in some of the creepiest derelict locations I've ever been to in my life…I got lost a couple of times by taking a wrong turn in the pitch black, and wandering to areas I didn't recognize. Your heart starts beating and you pick up your pace, not knowing if you're getting closer or further away, I've never been so happy to eventually find the camera crew."
Williams, who is known internationally for his roles in the hit television shows "Degrassi: The Next Generation," "Awkward" and "Baxter," as well as the feature films "Ride," "Degrassi Goes Hollywood" "Fishing Naked" and others, has had an incredibly successful year in the entertainment industry.
In addition to "Farhope Tower," the actor also completed several other high-profile projects this year, including the upcoming TV series "Versailles" where he plays the starring role of Chevalier, as well as the critical role of Cooter in the film "Gutter Slut," and the starring role of Ian in "Cannonball."
Audiences around the globe can look forward to seeing Williams immerse himself in the role of Chevalier, a 17th century homosexual villain, in the upcoming series "Versailles," which began filming in France last year and is scheduled to begin airing internationally in November.
The series, which has been referred to by Variety as 'Frances biggest-ever TV series,' is definitely a huge leap for the French television industry; but, it is also a big move for Williams as viewers will have the chance to see him take on a character that is starkly different from any that he has portrayed in the past.
"Versailles" co-writer, creator and executive producer David Wolstencroft says, "We thought it would be a struggle finding someone with the charm, mischief, sharp edges and nuance to play the Chevalier de Lorriane. But once we saw Evan Williams we knew we could relax. Evan is a natural and superbly gifted actor with unique comic timing. He's made the Chevalier into so much more. Just by bringing himself to it -- that's talent.”
The series, which also stars George Blagden ("After the Dark," "Blood Moon," "Les Miserables") in the role of the infamous Louis XIV, and Anatole Taubman ("Taken," "Equilibrium," "Captain America: The First Avenger," "Quantum of Solace") as Montcourt, is a modern retelling of the scandals that took place in the court of Louis XIV.
To make Williams' on-screen work this year even more interesting, the actor will also be continuing on in the role of Luke in the fifth season of MTV's "Awkward," which is slated to premiere on August 31. What this means is that viewers are going to have the chance to see the actor play two polar opposite starring roles in two drastically different shows airing on television at the same time. Only an actor who is able to completely lose their self in their character can accomplish such a feat, and Williams has shown over the years that he is a performer that is virtually unrecognizable from one role to the next.
For Evan Williams, acting is about telling captivating stories, and his ability to portray a wide range of roles, as proven from his work in hit productions over the past decade, has helped make every project he attaches himself to a huge success.
In addition to the films "Farhope Tower," "Gutter Slut" and "Cannonball," as well as the fifth season of the TV series "Awkward" and the first season of "Versailles" all slated for release this year, Williams also stars in the film "Visitors Parking," which will premiere at the Action On Film Festival in September in California. He also plays the starring role of Ben in the film "Paradise Club," which will have its international premiere on October 10 at the Other Venice Film Festival in Venice, California.
With a repertoire of work that is as impressive as it is extensive already under his belt, audiences around the world can bet this actor will continue to wow us with his incredible range and unparalleled performances for years to come.
