UCLA readies for 'Great Shakeout' earthquake preparedness drill

Shakeout 2013 logoThis Thursday at 10:17 a.m., members of the UCLA campus community will "drop, cover and hold on" as they participate in "The Great California Shakeout," a statewide earthquake drill.

As part of the university’s participation, the UCLA Office of Emergency Management (OEM) will test the BruinAlert system while airing a simulcast Shakeout drill on the campus AM radio station (1630 AM).

To fully participate and maximize the effectiveness of the drill, everyone at UCLA is asked to take these simple steps, which could save lives in the event of a real quake:

DROP to the ground (before the earthquake knocks you down).

Take COVER by getting under a sturdy desk or table.

HOLD ON to your shelter (until the shaking stops).
